Private Flats, Glasgow

We provided technical support from RIBA Stage E onwards to the Design & Build contractor on this major project which provides 77 private flats and associated car parking on a dense urban site. Accommodation includes studio flats, one and two bedroomed flats, and penthouses on the upper levels. French doors and feature balconies are combined with zinc cladding and reclaimed stone. The flats have long views over the City.

The construction method is in-situ post-tensioned concrete to allow relatively fast construction combined with inherent fire resistance. This allows relatively thin floor slabs with no camber and high dimensional tolerances. The fire strategy for the three circulation cores uses natural ventilation for smoke control. The site adjoins an active railway, requiring liaison with Network Rail and a special tower crane to avoid oversailing of the railway.
